Red Hook Farm is, to the best of my knowledge, the only working farm still operating within the borders of Brooklyn. On this hot, sticky, Saturday, I thought I'd head over and check it out, and while I'm there, I thought, I'll pop over to new Ikea, maybe cool off and pick up some stuff for the apartment I don't need. That was easy enough! The farm pretty much literally in the shadow of the store. Another shot of the farm:

The farmers market that the farm runs every Saturday from 9-3 was just wrapping up by the time I got there, but I'm planning on heading over next weekend and actually making it past the fence. One more shot:

I think those are farmers, but I couldn't get close enough to really tell. #

Deerhoof/Rite of Spring, Prospect Park

I headed up to Prospect Park last night thinking that the band Deerhoof would be preforming an electronica interpretation of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Honestly, the programming notes could have been a good deal clearer. It wasn't until after the ensemble was playing for quite a while did we realize that this was actually a two act show; act one was Rite of Spring, and act two was Deerhoof. Never the twain did meet. Damn, but still a nice evening out in the park. #

Soda - Seltzer - Beer

Just your run of the mill soda home-delivery truck, rambling down the streets of Park Slope. Do people really consume enough carbonated beverages to warrant having it delivered to their house? This is what I love about Brooklyn -- the frequency with which you walk down the street and say to yourself, "now, what in the the hell is that?"

I can't talk credit for this one. My s.o. Jane took it on her way to class this morning. i swear, sometimes her iPhone takes better pictures than my Canon Powershot. (Credit: Jane Andersen) #
