An Afternoon of Red Hook Community Farm and the New Ikea

Red Hook Farm is, to the best of my knowledge, the only working farm still operating within the borders of Brooklyn. On this hot, sticky, Saturday, I thought I'd head over and check it out, and while I'm there, I thought, I'll pop over to new Ikea, maybe cool off and pick up some stuff for the apartment I don't need. That was easy enough! The farm pretty much literally in the shadow of the store. Another shot of the farm:

The farmers market that the farm runs every Saturday from 9-3 was just wrapping up by the time I got there, but I'm planning on heading over next weekend and actually making it past the fence. One more shot:

I think those are farmers, but I couldn't get close enough to really tell. #

Deerhoof/Rite of Spring, Prospect Park

I headed up to Prospect Park last night thinking that the band Deerhoof would be preforming an electronica interpretation of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Honestly, the programming notes could have been a good deal clearer. It wasn't until after the ensemble was playing for quite a while did we realize that this was actually a two act show; act one was Rite of Spring, and act two was Deerhoof. Never the twain did meet. Damn, but still a nice evening out in the park. #

Just your run of the mill soda home-delivery truck, rambling down the streets of Park Slope. Do people really consume enough carbonated beverages to warrant having it delivered to their house? This is what I love about Brooklyn -- the frequency with which you walk down the street and say to yourself, "now, what in the the hell is that?"

I can't talk credit for this one. My s.o. Jane took it on her way to class this morning. i swear, sometimes her iPhone takes better pictures than my Canon Powershot. (Credit: Jane Andersen) #

Seventh Heaven Gets Soggy But Rolls On

Seventh Heaven, a street fair that ran up and down 7th Avenue in Park Slope for about 15 blocks this Saturday, had to cope with some wet weather. #

Sharp Grass and a Blurry Flag | Prospect Park

In Prospect Park this weekend a giant group of both kids and adults were playing parachute with a giant American flag. You know, parachute, right? It's where you pull a big piece of fabric into the air, move underneath it, and then sit on the edge, forming something of a bubble. We used to play parachute about once a year in grade school, which was one of the more exciting days of the year.

This photo was an accident. I was in the process of focusing when I slipped and took a picture, but there's something I like about how the sharpness of the grass contrasts against what almost seems like a mirage in the background. #
